Pendergast has quite a life. He operates out of New Orleans, however this is the third book that takes place in New York.
The book opens with a construction crew uncovering a mass-grave in the area they are preparing a new high rise/apartment building. Pendergast sneaks in with Smithback’s archeologist girlfriend to investigate. The only similarity in the bones is they’ve all had the spinal cord removed. When a new series of murders with the same MO starts up, it’s a race against the clock to stop the murderer.
Agent Pendergast was the main character this time around. We find out that he is quite sneaky, and that all of the Pendergast family has played with magic at one time or another. Sad that D’Agosta wasn’t around this time, Pendergast could use whatever help he could get here.
